The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the second half of the 2015 season and they are leaving no stone unturned.
The Steelers announced today that they have claimed wide receiver Jacoby Jones off waivers from the San Diego Chargers.
Jones(6-4,215) is in his ninth NFL season after entering the league as a third-round (73rd overall) draft choice of the Houston Texans in 2007. He was a Texan from 2007-2011 then joined the Baltimore Ravens from 2011 to 2014. He spent the first 8 games of 2015 with the San Diego Chargers before recently being cut from the team.
Jones has specialized in the return game throughout his career, totaling 4,720 yards on kickoff returns with 5 touchdowns, 2,669 punt return yards and 4 touchdowns.
Jacoby Jones also has 33 starts at the wide receiver position where he has caught 203 career passes for 2733 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The Steelers released second-year wide receiver/running back Dri Archer to make room for Jones.
Earlier this week the Steelers promoted cornerback Doran Grant from the practice squad to the 53 man roster and cut wide receiver Tyler Murphy. Grant (5-10, 200) was a fourth round pick (121st overall) of the Steelers in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Tyler Murphy has since been placed on the Steelers practice squad.
