The 2015 Pittsburgh Steelers are proving to be a resilient bunch and that may be putting it lightly. Through just the first 6 games of the season, the Steelers have faced plenty of adversity and many have risen to meet the challenge.
Before the 2015 season even officially began All Pro center and offensive line leader Maurkice Pouncey fractured his left fibula in the third preseason game.
Back up center Cody Wallace has stepped up and been getting the job done through the first 6 games.
Pouncey’s injury and Wallace’s stepping up is just the tip of the iceberg …
Star running back Le’Veon Bell serves a two game suspension?
No problem, running back DeAngelo Williams steps up and has 224 total yards from scrimmage and rushes for 3 touchdowns.
Big play wide receiver Martavis Bryant serves a four game suspension?
Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey steps up to make 17 catches for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns, making many key catches along the way.
Your on to your fourth kicker and it’s only the 5th game of the season?
No problem kicker Chris Boswell steps up from off the streets and makes all 5 of his field goals including 4 ( 51 , 47,48 and 28 yards) in his first home game at Heinz field. Oh, and did I mention Boswell was named NFL special teams player of the week in just his second NFL game .
Overcoming these obstacles alone would be enough to prove that this Steelers team has the makings of a special group but it does not end there.
Did I mention that the Steelers have been without their franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the past three games and have gone 2-1 in that span of games?
The last game, being against a 4-1 Arizona Cardinal team. The Steelers started quarterback Mike Vick, who was ineffective and injured in the first half .
No problem third string quarterback Landry Jones steps in and he completes 8 of 12 passes for 168 passing yards,2 touchdowns and a 149.3 passing rating.
Now we are really starting to see a trend!
However it does not even end there…
Just before Vick left the game the Steelers lost their starting left tackle Kelvin Beachum for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
In steps left tackle Alejandro Villanueva in his first real NFL action to take the place of Beachum. Villanueva got the job done and the Steelers got the win.
Starting inside linebacker Ryan Shazier has been out since the second game of the season with a shoulder injury and Sean Spence and Vince Williams have done a fine job filling in during his absence.
Starting safety Will Allen has missed the past two games and Robert Golden has stepped up.
Through all this adversity, the Steelers have a winning record at 4-2 and continue to find ways to win no matter the circumstance.
The season is just heading into its 7th week and the Steelers have gone through 4 kickers, while starting a back up center, a back up left tackle, a back up inside linebacker,a backup safety, a back up defensive end and three different quarterbacks have seen action.
The Steelers have proven that the “Next man up” motto is more than just words for this team.
They say that which does not kill us, makes us stronger.
The 2015 Pittsburgh Steelers have proven to be a strong team and seem to be getting stronger every week.
