The Pittsburgh Steelers lost starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to a knee injury in last weeks victory against the Rams. Roethlisberger is expected to miss 4 to 7 weeks with a sprained MCL.
Losing your starting quarterback is never a good thing and losing him the week before you play a hated division rival like the Baltimore Ravens just adds to the problem.
However, the Steelers are hoping that their back up plan will prove to be a wise one.
The Steelers signed controversial quarterback Mike Vick Aug. 25, after deciding they needed a proven veteran backup quarterback. QB Bruce Gradkowski had been injured and placed on IR, leaving a void of experience behind starter Ben Roethlisberger.
Well now that move to secure Vick as the back up plan will be tested tonight.
Will it pay off ? Vick and the Steelers seem confident it will…
Mike Vick: “I’ve crammed it all in the best that I can,I know how to compartmentalize and put it together the way I know how. This is my fourth offense that I’ve had to learn, so I’m just taking it one day at a time. I feel good and I’ve worked extremely hard to get here and prepare myself to go out there.
This is what I was born to do. I’m not a young guy anymore. I’m a seasoned veteran. It’s not about me. There are a lot of great players in this locker room that are confident in the outcome of a football game. I won’t put it all on my shoulders. I’ll take sole responsibility of everything that happens, but I’m just going to prepare myself and get myself in the position to help this football team.”
The Steelers felt they needed an insurance plan, just for this type of situation. They chose Mike Vick .Was that the right move? We begin to find out tonight.
