The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to practice Wednesday, after a day off .They are now gearing up for their first preseason game, the Hall of Fame Game in Canton Ohio that will kick off this Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings.
Let’s now take a look at news and notes from Wednesday’s practice…
<> Mike Tomlin spoke after practice …
Mike Tomlin: “Good spirit at work today, infused the two-minute into our practice to just cover that scenario. Obviously we will work on it again before going to Canton. We are touching on all the bases of situational football to get prepared to set foot into a stadium. I liked the work and I liked the energy coming off of an off day. It wasn’t perfect, never is, but they worked. We had one significant injury to speak of. You guys all saw Robert Golden go down at the end of the two-minute drill. He is being evaluated. I don’t have anything of any substance for you in that regard. A lot of the other bumps and bruises that are associated with camp, nothing to speak of or any significance from that standpoint. Hopefully we can get some of these guys back as they get well.”
WR Martavis Bryant, WR Markus Wheaton, S Mike Mitchell, RB Josh Harris, CB Cortez Allen, S Shamarko Thomas, S Ross Ventrone, DT Daniel McCullers, TE Heath Miller, TE Rob Blanchflower and LB James Harrison were among players held out or limited at practice.
<>The Steelers signed undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver Kenzel Doe ( 5-8 ,176) out of Wisconsin and placed rookie wide receiver Eli Rogers on the team’s Waived/Injured List.
Doe also has potential as a punt returner .
<> The offense won the daily “7- shots” goal line drills going 4-3 with the deciding score being a TD pass from QB Landry Jones to rookie TE Jesse James.
Landry Jones has shown some slight improvement with the added reps recently at camp.
<> The Steelers held their first two minute drill of camp and the first team offense scored a touchdown when QB Ben Roethlisberger hit WR Antonio Brown on a 13 yard touchdown pass on first and ten from the 13 yard line with just 20 seconds remaining.
The second team offense was not as lucky on the drill . The drive ended when cornerback Kevin Fogg intercepted a Landry Jones pass .
