News & Notes: Steelers Training Camp 2015, Day 3

SNS News&NotesThe Pittsburgh Steelers and training camp 2015 are in full swing,as we enter day 3, and the 2nd full practice opened to the public.Things are just beginning to heat up! Lets take a look at today’s news and notes…

<>The temperature was up and the heat became a problem for at least one player as  TE Cameron Clear left the practice field (heat-related illness).  S Ross Ventrone  also left practice after a collision  that left him grasping his lower leg and later being carted away.

TE Matt Spaeth joined LB James Harrison and S Will Allen who were held out for a second consecutive day as a coach’s decision.

<> Head coach Mike Tomlin spoke after practice about his timetable for the return of back up QB  Bruce Gradkowski

Mike Tomlin: “We are taking it day by day. I haven’t even stopped to review just yet. I thought we could get settled and get a few days and [then look at] some of those potential short term PUP List guys, like Bruce and Maurkice Pouncey and some of the others. We’ll talk when we get the day off tomorrow to see where they are at.”

<> The defense came up big on goal-line drills with CB Cortez Allen Intercepting a Roethlisberger pass and rookie CB Doran Grant picking off a Landry Jones pass.

<>QB Ben Roethlisberger spoke about the continuing development of second year player WR Martavis Bryant

Ben Roethlisberger:  “He’s(Martavis Bryant) put the work in. He looks good. He’s picking everything up. Last year we just kind of put him in there and gave him a couple of things to do, which he did really well at. Now we’re asking him to do more. We’re asking him to move around a little bit, front side, back side, and to know things better. I’m going to count on him in the no-huddle. Last year he’d ask everyone what to do. Now we feel more comfortable with him knowing what to do. Hopefully he’ll be able to translate that into playing faster.”

<> DE Cam Heyward spoke about the continuing development of second year player  DE Stephon Tuitt

Cam Heyward:He’s(Stephon Tuitt) light years ahead of where he was last year. Now, he’s just looking to take it out on the field. He didn’t work that hard in the offseason for nothing. He put in the work and he’s more confident in the plays. He’s learning how to not only get himself set, but others as well.

<>Stephon Tuitt and Martavis Bryant are two key players that the Steelers need to take that next step ,after having success as rookies. By all accounts they are both well on their way to doing just that.
