Pittsburgh Steelers  2015 NFL Draft Warm Up

BR DraftThe 2015 NFL draft is almost here ,as the NFL kicks off its 80th draft, April 30th from Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois  with the first round.

The draft will continue with rounds 2 and 3 Friday,May 1 and finish up with rounds 4 through 7 Saturday, May 2.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the 22nd overall pick in round 1 and 8 total picks in the 2015 NFL draft , with two picks in round 6 after receiving a 6 round compensatory pick  (212 overall) by the NFL this offseason.

The Steelers enter the 2015 NFL draft with more than a few need areas , mostly on the defensive side of the ball.

It is widely believed the Steelers will choose defense hard and heavy in much of the first two days of the draft.

The Steelers need to retool a depleted secondary and also could use a young pass rusher or two.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in February 2000 and now heads in to his 16th draft with the Steelers. Here is a list of Steelers first round picks since 2000…

  • 2000 — Plaxico Burress, WR, Michigan State (8)
  • 2001 — Casey Hampton, NT, Texas (19, after trade from 16)
  • 2002 — Kendall Simmons, G, Auburn (30)
  • 2003 — Troy Polamalu, S, USC (16, after trade from 27)
  • 2004 — Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Miami (Ohio) (11)
  • 2005 — Heath Miller, TE, Virginia (30)
  • 2006 — Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State (25, after trade from 32)

  • 2011 — Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State (31)
  • 2012 — David DeCastro, G, Stanford (24)
  • 2013 — Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia (17)
  • 2014 — Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State (15)

The Steelers have only chosen a player in the secondary in the first round once since Kevin Colbert became GM in 2000 and that was at safety when they traded up to get safety Troy Polamalu with the 16th pick in 2003.

The Steelers have never chosen a cornerback in the first round under Colbert but that could change in the upcoming draft with many experts thinking the Steelers will go in that direction.

Here is a list of Steelers first round predictions by draft experts from around the web…
