The Pittsburgh Steelers have dove back into the free agent pool even if only to make a small splash. The Steelers have announced that they have re-signed one of their own unrestricted free agents, wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey to a one year contract .
Heyward-Bey 28 played the 2014 season with the Steelers and was primarily used on special teams were he collected 3 tackles last season . He also had 3 catches as a receiver and started one game in 2014 .
Heyward-Bey was originally drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has 65 career starts, 172 receptions for 2413 yards and 12 touchdowns during his 6 seasons in the NFL .
Darrius Heyward-Bey adds depth to the Steelers wide receiver core on game days and also contributes on special teams. He is starter capable if need be. He is willing to accept his role as a special team player and has shown a willingness to do what ever the Steelers ask of him, and that’s a big reason he was brought back.
