The Good, The Bad & The Ugly: Steelers at the Jaguars

SNSGBUThe Pittsburgh Steelers played the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville and won 17 -9 ,collecting their third win of the 2014 season. The Steelers are now 3-2. The win was not always pretty but a win none the less Let’s take a look at the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the Steelers victory over the Jaguars

The Good:
The Steelers had a few good performances with QB Ben Roethlisberger going 26-36 for 273 yards and a touchdown with a quarterback rating of 103.1.
WR Antonio Brown caught 5 passes for 84 yards and running back Le’Veon Bell ran 15 times for 82 yards  , a 5.5 yard average .Bell also had  5 catches for 36  yards receiving.

On defense DB Cortez Allen had a good game intercepting his second pass of the season and DB Brice McCain had a key interception he returned for a touchdown that gave the Steelers an 8 point lead late in the game.

The bottom line is that the Steelers defense had a good game as a unit causing two interceptions.. The defense did not give up a touchdown and held the Jaguar’s run game in check most of the game, giving up only 56 total rushing yards on 15 carries  and a 3.7 yard average. This may not be a great performance but it is a step in the right direction.

The Bad:

The Steelers offense is still very inconsistent and seems to sputter in red- zone situations. The Steelers only mustered up 17 points against the last ranked defense in the NFL and 7 of those came courtesy of the Steelers defense.

The Steelers need to score more touchdowns in red-zone situations instead of settling for 3 points. The Steelers defense is still a work in progress and can use all the help the offense can give.

The Ugly:

Yes the Steelers penalties were down but 7 flags for 50 yards is still too many. This young Steelers team lacks discipline but still has a chance to grow before things get too ugly.

The Steelers defense must create more pressure on opposing quarterbacks. They only had one sack Sunday and that’s not going to get the job done against a more seasoned veteran quarterback. The success of the Steelers defense depends on rushing the quarterback and these outside linebackers must step up and bring some heat.
