Steeler Nation, the Steelers ended their 2014 preseason with a 10-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers and now will officially prepare to kick off the regular season at home vs.the Cleveland Browns. Lets take a look at the Good, the Bad & the Ugly of the Steelers 10-0 loss to the Panthers.
Once again the good was not easy to find in this preseason loss. Most of the key Steelers starters played little or not at all. Linebacker Jarvis Jones showed flashes of goodness registering 3 tackles and a fumble recovery.Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey led the Steelers with 6 catches for 44 yards and more than likely secured a roster spot on the team. Another Steeler who had a good game was safety Shamarko Thomas who had 6 tackles in the game. Thomas has looked impressive throughout training camp and most of the preseason. Overall the best thing that happened in this game was the end of the preseason.
The Bad was plentiful as the Steelers got shut out.The offense could not maintain a scoring drive and was not even able to get into any sort of scoring range. The defense went without a sack or an interception and the special teams was anything but special. The Steelers lacked big plays all around for the second straight game a trend that must change in the regular season.
The Steelers seem to have very little quality depth on the offensive line and in the secondary, not to mention that after QB Ben Roethlisberger things are shaky at best. The lack of a consistent pass rush is also a big concern. The Steelers need these young players to step up real soon and make some plays or things could get real ugly.
