The Pittsburgh Steelers announced today that they have signed right tackle Marcus Gilbert to a new 6 year contract that will keep Gilbert with the team through the 2019 season..
Gilbert came to the Steelers out of the University of Florida as a second round draft pick(63 overall) in the 2011 NFL draft. Gilbert was entering the final year of his rookie contract this season. The Steelers also extended center Maurkice Pouncey earlier this year and now have both players secured through the 2019 season.
Marcus Gilbert spoke about his new contract…
Marcus Gilbert: “It means I am locked in hopefully as a Steeler for the rest of my career,it’s a blessing to work for a great organization, the Rooney family, Kevin Colbert and Coach (Mike) Tomlin. Just to be around in Pittsburgh, where they show you so much love, I couldn’t be happier and in a better place.”
“I’ve seen the growth on the offensive line, the guys I came in with, the line is growing and we can become something special. That was one of my main focal points. To give everything I have to this organization means so much to me.”
