The Pittsburgh Steelers had some company at camp today as the Buffalo Bills joined them in a joint practice on Chuck Noll Field at Saint Vincent College. This was the first of two planned practices by the two teams, with the second taking place Thursday.
Let’s take a look at the news & notes of Wednesday’s practice.
<>The Steelers and Saint Vincent College honored longtime Steelers scout Bill Nunn who passed away earlier this year with a memorial bench that will stand at the top of the hill outside Benedict Hall. The bench overlooks Chuck Noll Field. It will have an engraved plaque mounted on the back to explain who Bill Nunn was and what he contributed to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nunn often watched practice from this very spot.
<> The Steelers signed running back Stephen Houston who was recently cut by the New England Patriots. Houston is an undrafted free agent out of Indiana .
<> Notable players who did not practice were OLB Jarvis Jones(groin), G Ramon Foster(knee), ILB Vince Williams(concussion) TE Matt Spaeth and LB Jordan Zumwalt
<> The Steelers and the Bills held a joint practice and from all reports it went well. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin spoke after practice…
Mike Tomlin:“Man that was great work. Buffalo was a great dance partner,we appreciate Coach (Doug) Marrone and that group and got a lot of things done. Similar work to what we’ve been doing in terms of structure of the practice and drills setup, but obviously a different sense of urgency, some different schematics and some different guys. It was really a productive day for us. In just a brief communication with Coach, I think it was a very productive day for them.
“I appreciate the professionalism from both teams and that’s what it’s about, too. I think we’ve got an obligation to show our professionalism. I thought both teams did a great job of that largely.”
<> Long snapper Greg Warren left practice with a potential knee injury Coach Tomlin spoke about today’s injuries …
Mike Tomlin:“Will Johnson went off with a hamstring strain of some description, doesn’t appear to be significant,” said Tomlin. “We’ll take a look at him. Will Allen, same thing. A potential significant one is Greg Warren. He went off with a leg injury. He’s being evaluated (and I) don’t know the extent of that at this time. I’ll have a better update for you, I’m sure, tomorrow.”
