News & Notes: Steelers Training Camp Day 7

SNSThe Steelers are back at Saint Vincent College, after a fired up and physical Friday Night Lights practice. We are now at the one week mark of the Pittsburgh Steelers 2014 training camp and things are starting to heat up. Let’s take a look at some news and notes from Saturdays’ practice.

<> Notable players that had today’s practice off was tight end Heath Miller and nose tackle Steve McLendon. Both players were given the day off by Mike Tomlin and should return without a problem. Linebacker Jarvis Jones,Receiver Justin Brown  and WR/RB Dri Archer returned to practice Saturday after being out Friday night.

<> The Steelers held their goal- line drills Saturday ,with the offense scoring three touchdowns and the defense stopping the offense from scoring three times ,during the 6 sessions.

<> Reports are that rookie wide receiver Martvis Bryant had what may be his best practice to date making several good catches.

<>Dri Archer did well in one on one passing drills beating Lawrence Timmons four times. Archers has great speed and good hands and has not disappointed so far in camp.

<>Tempers continued to run hot with Outside linebacker Chris Carter and left tackle Kelvin Beachum getting into a fight and having to be separated. Also center Maurkice Pouncey and nose tackle Hebron Fangupo  threw some punches at one another during the goal line drills. The Steelers are having a very physical camp so far.

<>Safety Mike Mitchell has shown improvement with his injured hamstring and may be able to come off the PuP List soon. Mitchell has yet to practice with the  team.

<> Rookie defensive end Stephon Tuitt had reps with the first team with Cam Thomas subbing for Steve McLendon at nose tackle . Tuitt has impressed coaches so far in camp with great speed and athletic ability for a man his size.

Tweets of the Day…

Martavis Bryant unstoppable in red zone one on ones. TDs on every rep.

WR Justin Brown says he will practice today despite having surgery on his nose. Will wear a cast and visor to protect it. Says he feels fine.

Vince Williams says there is no beef between him and Le’Veon Bell. “Just two competitors going at it.”

HoJo ran through Adams in one on one, and I just can’t understand why Adams keeps his hands in so close to his body. Not getting better.
