News & Notes: Steelers “Friday Night Lights” Practice

SNS News&NotesSteeler Nation, The Steelers held their annual Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium. This practice is always a highlight of camp and did not disappoint. Lets take a look at the news and notes from practice.

<>The Steelers announced they have extended kicker Shaun Suisham‘s contract through the 2018 season.

<>The Steelers also waived RB Alvester Alexander & signed first-year RB Jawan Jamison. Jamison will wear # 44

<> On the injury front Jarvis Jones (groin),Dri Archer (hamstring) , Justin Brown (broken nose) and  LeGarrette Blount were notable players who did not participate. During practice Cornerback Shaq Richardson left with a groin injury.

<> A main event during practice is always the back on backers drills and this one could of been a main event Friday night fight! The linebackers dominated most of the night and when  Le’Veon Bell and Vince Williams  faced off things got heated. Bell won the first match up but round two Williams drove Bell to the ground and stayed on top of him. Running back LeGarrette Blount dressed in street clothes came to Bell’s defense diving into the pile after Williams. At this point all chaos broke out! Coach Joey Porter grabbed Blount off the pile and Porter and Blount went nose to nose yelling at one another!

Coach Tomlin had this to say about the action after practice…

Coach Mike Tomlin: “It’s the ebb and flow of team development, the tight ends kicked the linebackers’ butt the other day. The linebackers came back today with a vengeance. It’s what team development is about. I would imagine that the backs and tight ends will come back out here (today) with a get-back attitude.”

“It’s an emotional game and they do lose that element of it sometimes, but those things are growth opportunities and opportunities for us to teach,” Tomlin said. “At times, you’re going to feel like you’re wronged, but at the same time, you’ve got to keep your wits about you because we step into stadiums with one goal in mind, to win. Obviously, 15-yard penalties and things of that nature don’t help with that cause. When do you get an opportunity to talk about that, except in training-camp-like settings when tempers run a little hot?”

<> CB Antwon Blake continues to impress and seems to have a real shot of making this team.

<> Sean Spence had another solid practice as he continues his remarkable comeback story.

<>Chris Carter played with the first team in for Jarvis Jones at right outside linebacker.

 Tweets of the Day…

We have extended kicker Shaun Suisham’s contract through the 2018 season.

Troy Polamalu treats fans to an interception. Picks off an overthrown Ben Roethlisberger pass in the middle of the field.

Huge fight. Bell and Vince Williams. It was ugly. Blount jumps in and porter has to pull him off

Then LeGarrette Blount came in head first w/o pads on to knock Williams off of LeVeon before Joey Porter ripped Blount out of the pile

Moats in for injured Jarvis Jones on opposite his usual side. Definitely the No. 3 guy. Deserves it.

Wow. What a physical physical back on backers. Amazing
