As the Steelers prepare for their “Friday Night Lights” practice on Friday night, the front office took care of some business they thought needed to be done by signing kicker Shaun Suisham to a contract extension. Susham’s extension is for four-years, however, the contract details were not disclosed. Suisham is now on the roster through the 2018 season.
Since arriving back with the Steelers in 2010, Suisham has been nothing shy of great. His 87.2% of field goals made in that time frame ranks first in Steelers history. Suisham counted for 129 points during the 2013 season as he finished with 30 made field goals and a 93.8% rating for the season.
Prior to his return with the Steelers, Suisham spent time with two other organizations – Cowboys (05-06 and again in 09) and the Redskins (06-09). Suisham was signed out of college as an undrafted free agent in 2005 by the Steelers but was released before the season started.
The Steelers now have one less problem to worry about and even though some may think kicker is not a huge problem, Suisham has combined 412 points since being back on the team. An extra 100 points a season that he has shown you can count on. Not having a reliable kicker can lead to problems as the season rolls on, but luckily, the Steelers do not have to worry about that.
