The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to practice Wednesday after having Tuesday off. The weather held off and they was able to complete a full day of practice . Here are the news and notes from day 4 of training camp.
<> The Pittsburgh Steelers began the day with a press conference announcing they will officially retire Joe Greene‘s number 75 November 2nd.
<> On the injury front running back Le’Veon Bell (Hamstring) missed another practice but it does not seem to be too serious just precautionary.Rookie tight end Rob Blanchflower also missed practice with a reported high ankle sprain. He spent practice in a protective boot. Guard Ramon Foster returned to practice after missing the start of camp with a death in the family. Foster’s return reportedly helped the running game.
Safety Mike Mitchell (groin) and running back Alvester Alexander (groin) remain on the PUP list but are said to be making progress.
<> Steelers sign RB Josh Harris to camp roster and place David Snow (foot) on waived/injured list. Harris will wear #40.
<> Running back LeGarrette Blount has taken the bulk of the first team reps with Bell out and has looked good. The running back position has definitely been upgraded with Blount’s arrival compared to 2013.
<> Rookie nose tackle Daniel McCullers had a good practice Wednesday blowing up a couple of running plays in the backfield. McCullers 6-7 352 is a big man and its early yet but he has shown flashes of ability.
<> Safety Troy Polamalu intercepted a Landry Jones pass that would of been ran back for a touchdown .
<> Speaking of Landry Jones reports say he is having a better camp than last season but still very inconsistent . The same can be said about all the Steelers back up quarterbacks.
<> A couple of players to keep and eye on are guard/center Chris Elkins. and tight end Eric Waters. Elkins is an undrafted rookie from Youngstown State and has been receiving praise from teammates such as Ramon Foster and Maurkice Pouncey . Waters is a undrafted rookie out o Missouri and reportedly has shown ability as a blocker and pass catcher. Both players have a long road ahead of them but have a chance with little depth at their positions.
<>Rookie Defensive end Stephon Tuitt continues to impress coaches with his play early in camp.
Tweets of the day…
Daniel McCullers having his best practice of his short career.
He is not getting pub of Ryan Shazier but Vince Williams has looked good early in camp. Steelers depth at ILB could be really good.
