News and Notes : Steelers Training Camp Day 3

The Pittsburgh Steelers had their third practice and first with pads! There was plenty of hitting and physical play to go around. Lets take a look at some camp news & notes from day three.

<> The rain came and went Monday but didn’t have much of an effect on practice. The Steelers moved practice to the turf side of Chuck Noll Field

<> On the injury front wide receiver Martavis Bryant (groin) returned to practice Monday. Running back Le’Veon Bell (groin) sat out Monday and Safety Mike Mitchell (groin) and running back Alvester Alexander (groin) remain on the PUP list. Rookie linebacker Jordan Zumwalt was added to the injury list with a groin pull.

<> Linebacker Jason Worilds made the play of the day intercepting Ben Roethlisberger while back in coverage , covering WR/RB Dri Archer.

<> Linebackers seemed to rule the day as rookie Ryan Shazier had a good day displaying  great speed and physicality in backs on backers. LB Sean Spence continued to be a success and showed some good signs of a full recovery. LB Jarvis Jones has shown some improvement and overall had a good practice.

<>Linebacker coach Joey Porter was plenty vocal and even stood in at the quarterback spot during backs and backers drill.

<> Offensive lineman Chris Hubbard took first team reps at guard again replacing Ramon Foster. Foster is expected to return as soon as Wednesday.

<> WR/RB Dri Archer seems to be the top kick return/punt return candidate. Archer also practiced only as a wide receiver Monday.

<> The Steelers will be off Tuesday and will return to practice on Wednesday.

<> Kevin Colbert said Monday, “We haven’t eliminated any players from consideration. You never know what might happen in the preseason and into the season.
Brett Keisel still may be called into action.

Tweets of the day…

It was a truly enjoyable Steelers practice to watch today. The energy level was ramped up during live period. Same level was felt in crowd.

Ryan Shazier combines a bull rush with a swim move during backs-on-backers. Not too many LBs can pull that off.

Intense practice? Even Dick LeBeau is yelling.
