Earlier this week former Steeler James Harrison made it know that he would like to return to the Steelers in 2014. Harrison and cornerback Ike Taylor appeared on “NFL Total Access” with Dan Hellie .
Hellie asked where Harrison wants to play this season, Taylor spoke up and said “Pittsburgh.”
Harrison then said: “Everybody knows that.”
Harrison wanting to come back to the Steelers is not all that big of a surprise. He turns 36 in May and many felt he did not fit in to the Cincinnati Bengals 4-3 defensive scheme. It’s not likely he has many teams knocking down his door at this point in his career and time is no longer on his side.
So the next question in this equation is would the Steelers be interested in such a return?
Well that question may have been answered ,when Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers beat reporter Ed Bouchette wrote that there is mutual attraction and there has been talks on bringing James Harrison back. Bouchette even went as far as to say he expects Harrison back.
So James Harrison wants to return… The Steelers are reportedly open to discussion for the return. Whats next? Well the next questions are at what price is Harrison willing to return for and what role is he willing to play?
The Steelers have very little outside linebacker depth and could use the quality back up insurance that Harrison would bring not to mention the positive influence he could bring to the locker room and Jarvis Jones. Harrison’s work ethic is legendary and his pass rushing knowledge could help a player like Jones.
If the price is right and Harrison is ready to accept a back up role the Steelers may be wise to bring Harrison back. Then again ” if ” can be a big word.
