For the second day in a row, starting left tackle Kelvin Beachum did not participate in practice. Head coach Mike Tomlin classified Beachum’s injury as a knee sprain. If Beachum can not go on Sunday when the Steelers play the Dolphins, it opens the opportunity for Mike Adams to have another look at left tackle.
Adams was benched after week four in London England where Adams put on a disappointing performance against the Minnesota Vikings as the Steelers fell to an 0-4 record.
When Adams was benched he was given a different role in the offense. He backed up Beachum but also played a tight end position on run downs. Now with the odds leaning against Beachum playing on Sunday, Adams will hope to have redemption at his old spot.
Adversity, and how you handle it, is really the key thing,” said Todd Haley when asked about Adams’ progression. “You can handle it in a couple of different ways. He’s chosen to handle it in a positive manner and it’s allowed him to work harder and get better, knowing that his opportunity would come up again. He took the opportunities that he’s been given to this point, as far as being in there in some of the big people packages where he was playing tight end, and he had to fill in when guys went down last week. He’s done a positive job with it. He dealt with adversity in a positive way. He’s going to eventually get an opportunity and he has to be ready to go.
Adams also suffered an injury in last week’s game. An injury Tomlin classified as a foot sprain. Adams did however, participate fully the last two days in practice. So with Beachum’s status rolling to doubtful, Adams must be ready and help his team through a must win game against a fierce Dolphins pass rush.
