5 Things The Steelers & Steeler Nation Have To Be Thankful For In 2013

helmetSteeler Nation , Its Thanksgiving 2013 and there is plenty to be thankful for as we look back at what has been the Pittsburgh Steelers season thus far.  So spend time today and be thankful as we all fill up on turkey, pie, and football with friends and family!

Here is a look at just a few things the Steelers and Steeler Nation have to be thankful for as it pertains to the 2013 football season…

The dynamic duo of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Antonio Brown…

Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown have been one of the best quarterback-wide receiver combinations in the NFL in 2013. Brown has led the NFL in receiving much of the season and has 80 catches for 1044 yards and six touchdowns through only 11 games. Brown is on pace to break the Steelers all-time receiving record for catches in a season. Brown is Roethlisberger’s main offensive weapon and the two truly have developed a great chemistry that is hard to find.

The fact that the Steelers chose to sign Antonio Brown and let Mike Wallace walk…

The Steelers had a choice to make and it’s becoming more and more apparent that the Steelers made the right choice choosing to sign Antonio Brown over Mike Wallace. Antonio Brown is a better all -around receiver than Wallace, able to make all the catches and run just about any route. Wallace only has 2 touchdowns while Brown has 6. Brown has 80 catches almost doubling Wallace who has 49 . Wallace’s best attribute was he is known as a quality deep threat but he is averaging 13.5 yards a catch and Brown almost equals that at 13.1  a catch. Wallace got the bigger pay day in Miami and that is a mistake we should be thankful the Steelers didn’t make.

Ben Roethlisberger is still healthy and preforming at a high level after a rocky start by his offensive line …

Ben Roethlisberger may be having one of his best years despite being sacked 37 times through the first 10 games not to mention a non existing running game through most of the season. Roethlisberger may be the only quarterback in the league to pull off such a feat,an attribute that goes over looked by many when judging him among the other elite quarterbacks. Roethlisberger has a quarterback rating of 92.2, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions through 11 games.  Roethlisberger just won AFC offensive player of the month for November completing  97 of 157 passes 61.8 % for 1,188 yards with 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions and a 100.5 passer rating during November.

The Steelers being lucky enough to find a quality center in Fernando Velasco after Maurkice Pouncey  went down with a season ending knee injury…

Fernando Velasco has been a welcomed sight doing more than an adequate job at center despite the circumstances . Velasco has become a part of the team with many considering him an MVP due to his effort and leadership under tough circumstances . The Steelers were lucky a player his caliber was still available after week one of the season and very thankful.

The fact that the AFC is weak this season and that the Steelers are still very much in the playoff hunt after an 0-4 start…

The bottom line is the Steelers couldn’t of picked a better season to decide to start off slow with many mediocre AFC teams in the mix. There are not many seasons you can start off 0-4 and still be relevant in the playoff race in November but this seems to be the year and for that we should be very thankful.

Steeler Nation ,this is just a few of the things the Steelers and Steeler Nation should be thankful for as it pertains to the 2013 football season, feel free to list your own in the comments .

Lets not forget the true things in life to be thankful for today and every day as we enjoy life with family and friends . Happy Thanksgiving  from us at SteelersNStuff and God Bless!
