Steeler Nation, The Steelers are now 2-4 and have a two game winning streak after defeating the Ravens 16-19 .The game was the Steelers best performance as a team of the 2013 season .
Lets take a look at the Good, the Bad & the Ugly of the game.
We have to start with the offensive line. This was their best showing of the season by far. The Steelers ran the ball well rushing 29 times for 145 yards and a 4.9 yard average. The offensive line was a huge part of that equation. They also pass blocked much better as Ben Roethlisberger had plenty of time most of the game. Kelvin Beachum seems to be doing fine at left tackle and David DeCastro seems to be progressing well at his guard position.
Running back Le’Veon Bell continued to improve and impress with 19 carries for 93 yards. He has all the potential to be a feature back and continues to grow as an NFL running back.
Ben Roethlisberger had a good game although his numbers were not huge 17 of 23 for 160 yards and a TD. Roethlisberger played smart football and had a QB rating of 107.2.
The Steelers defense also continued to play smash mouth football holding Ray Rice to 15 carries for only 45 yards and keeping quarterback Joe Flacco in check most of the game. The Steelers defense almost went 8 quarters without giving up a touchdown before letting the Ravens score a TD late in the 4th quarter. Lawrence Timmons had a monster game collecting 17 total tackles,12 solo and 5 assists .
Kicker Shaun Suisham remains perfect on the season adding four more successful field goals (34,28,38,42) including a 42 yard game winner to end the game . Once again Suisham proves he is clutch and one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL.
The Steelers had to settle for too many field goals and the offense must do a better job in the red zone. Good teams don’t settle for field goals and the Steelers offense must continue to improve .
Punter Zoltan Mesko only had one punt and it was a bad one that only netted 24 yards at a time the Steelers could of pinned the Ravens deep. Mesko has been a disappointment so far this season and must punt better from here on out.
The Steelers defense did not force any turnovers and only have two in a total of 6 games. The defense must find a way to cause more turnovers. Two forced turn overs in six game won’t cut it.
The Steelers defense must do a better job of sacking the quarterback. The Steelers have 8 total sacks for the season. Eight sacks in six games ranks the Steelers 31st in the NFL. In comparison the Kansas City Chiefs lead the league with 35 sacks.
The Steelers defense feeds off sacks and this has to improve for the Steelers defense to become a dominate one.
The bottom line is the Steelers must make more splash plays on defense .
