Although Steelers N Stuff does not usually report rumors until they become reality, I felt that this one was big enough to bring to attention. This afternoon on CBSSports.com, insider Jason LaCanfora said on his video segment, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders could potentially be traded by the trade deadline.
“They’re probably gonna lose him at the end of the year to free agency anyway, LaCanfora said. “He was signed to an offer sheet by New England over the offseason.”
Does LaCanfora have a lead on something? The Steelers have been trying to work rookie receiver Marcus Wheaton into a higher role in the offense. With that, tight end Heath Miller has came back from injury and slot receiver Jerricho Cotchery has been productive out of the slot with 15 receptions for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season.
Sanders has yet to find the end zone in four games. According to Pro Football Focus, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been intercepted three times out of the 37 times he has targeted Sanders. Roethlisberger’s quarterback rating is just 39.4 when targeting Sanders. That is the second worst rating behind Buccaneers’ Vincent Jackson to receivers who have been targeted 30+ times.
After Sunday’s loss in Wembley Stadium to the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Mike Tomlin stated whoever not working to get better, will not be part of the team. Are Mike Tomlin and the front office about to send a message to the rest of the locker room?
Other names who LaCanfora said could be traded before the October 29th trade deadline are: Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt, Browns wide receiver Greg Little, and Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman.
