For the past decade the Steelers were always a veteran team loaded with a bunch of talent. However, in 2013, the Pittsburgh Steelers are very much a young team but how high is their talent? The Steelers now have players that were college stars like Jarvis Jones and Le’Veon Bell. Can they make the transition to the National Football league?
Until now, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger never had to worry about taking the reigns as the head veteran quarterback. Guys like Charlie Batch would usually be the guy young quarterbacks would ask questions to. Now Roethlisberger has taken over that roll finally at the age of 31.
Quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones are in charge of backing up Roethlisberger in 2013. In recent years the Steelers had troubles keeping good, fresh, talent under Roethlisberger but both quarterbacks seem more than capable of learning the offense and making plays if Roethlisberger was to ever go down.
Last season the Steelers finished 26th in running the football. This year they have done everything possible to go out and change that by not only drafting a running back in Le’Veon Bell but also added potential acquired help in Felix Jones. In 2012, Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer were unable to take the starting job and make it their’s. The Steelers have taken all the measures to make them a better team in the running attack.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been known for their linebackers. In 2013, the Steelers have many unproven linebackers starting with Jason Worilds and Jarvis Jones. The two linebackers are battling over a position that linebacker James Harrision held down for 6 seasons. Harrison became a Steelers’ great and a Super Bowl hero to the city of Pittsburgh. Depth wise, the Steelers have spaces to fill as well whether it be Alan Baxter, Vince Williams, or Marshall McFadden, the Steelers are looking for guys that can solidify there on defense as well as special teams.
There will be some new faces in new places this season in Pittsburgh that you are not use to seeing. A team that went so long riding off of the power from their key veterans to trying to rebuild what they had in the past.
