Steeler Nation , with the season ending injury of wide receiver Plaxico Burress there is now an even bigger opportunity for some of the younger wide receivers to step up. Among the young receivers leading the way in taking that step is wide receiver Justin Brown .
Justin Brown a 2013 sixth round draft pick led the Steelers in their first pre-season game with four catches for 32 yards. Brown made a couple of nice catches against the Giants .
Besides showing good hands and,size 6-3,209, Justin Brown has blocking ability, and plays special teams. These are all attributes the Steelers coaches will be looking for in the search for the next receiver spot.
Reports from training camp have been good as Brown continues to impress on the fields of St. Vincent and so far it has carried over into the pre-season.
Here is a little back ground on Brown and his college career….
Justin Brown began his college career at Penn St. He played three seasons at Penn St. tallying 73 catches for 1047 yards and 3 touchdowns and a 14.3 yard average per catch. Following the Penn St scandal, Justin Brown decided to transfer for his senior season to Oklahoma .In one season at Oklahoma, wide receiver Justin Brown quickly found himself as one of QB Landry Jones‘ targets. Brown recorded 73 receptions for 879 yards and 5 touchdowns. Four of Brown’s touchdowns came on third down.
Brown showed great poise his senior season putting up the best numbers of his career while making adjustments to a whole new team, system and coaching staff .
Is Brown poised to add to the Steelers wide receiver depth. So far he is making all the right moves.
