Behind Enemy Lines: Training Camp Report

Lines

Steelers’ Fans, now that we are well into training camp, I felt a look at the other three teams in the AFC North would be important as we are edging closer to the beginning of the season. We are stepping behind enemy lines to take a look at the latest training camp news regarding the Bengals, Browns, and Ravens. Be careful.

Bengals – If you remember, the Cincinnati Bengals are featured in this year’s HBO Hard Knocks. The network released a sneak peak of that to the public.

The Bengals recently held a joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons where the the team was looking to see their players go head-to-head against some other players and talent. “Early on we were a little concerned. We thought we struggled a little bit with the tempo. I think everybody was not really sure what to expect,” said offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.

WR A.J. Green has been bothered with a knee injury for the past two weeks and did not make the trip to the joint practice.

Browns – Former Raiders and Cardinals LB Quentin Groves is having a great camp according to head coach Rod Chudzinski. “Quentin, in a lot of respects, has been having a great camp,” coach Rob Chudzinski said. “He is showing his pass-rush ability. He is getting off the edge quickly. He is showing leadership.”

According to several reports, Browns running back Trent Richardson has been working on the art of receiving. Richardson is coming off a good rookie season where he recorded 11 rushing touchdowns, but just one receiving. Richardson hopes to add this to his game to become one of the more dangerous running backs in the National Football League.

It looks that the Browns will start the same quarterback the same two years in a row in Brandon Weeden. Weeden (29), was drafted a season ago by the Browns. Weeden recorded a 72.6 passer rating with 14 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Ravens – The Baltimore Ravens have been hit by the injury bug early and often here in 2013. Starting with tight end Dennis Pitta who suffered a devastating injury by dislocating his hip. Tight end Ed Dickson has also been sidelined with a hamstring injury, which makes the Ravens in need for Visanthe Shaincoe to step in quickly.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens’ offensive line has been holding their own against the fierce pass rushers Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil.

Cornerback Asa Jackson has looked terrible in training camp to this point according to the Baltimore Sun. The defensive back was busted again for violating the substance abuse policy. The violation resulted in an eight-game suspension.
