Steeler Nation , its hard to believe but we are just one week away from the first Steelers pre-season game. The Steelers continued camp today at St. Vincent College . This may be one of the most physical camps in years with all of the live tackling drills especially in the running game. The bumps and bruises may be adding up. Here are today’s news and notes…
On the injury front there was some new walking wounded today.Running back Le’Veon Bell (bruised knee) and LB Jarvis Jones ( undisclosed) both missed practice. Matt Spaeth had his knee drained Friday but says it’s not a big deal.
CB Cortez Allen ( knee) Demarcus Van Dyke(Hamstring), Terry Hawthorne (knee)LB Jason Worlids (toe) continued to sit out of practice.
Ben Roethlisberger finished up practice early with an ice pack but it does not appear to be anything serious just the normal wear and tear of camp.
Lawrence Timmons missed practice due to a death in the family.
The Steelers signed veteran OT D’Anthony Batiste and placed OT Nik Embernate on the Waived/Injured List.
The tackle positions remained the same as Friday evening. Mike Adams stayed at left tackle and Marcus Gilbert at right tackle.
The Steelers had the goal-line drills today but it was very underwhelming due to the fact many of the key players were held out because of injury or needing a rest… Roethlisberger sat out and QB Bruce Gradkowski took over on offense. The defense dominated the drill to begin with going up 3-0 in the first three drills. The offense won the next two making it 3-2. The defense closed it out with a win and a 4-2 final.
On a side note the Steelers announced they will wear their throw back jerseys against the Detroit Lions November 17th.
