Steeler Nation ,training camp began July 26th and in that short time we have gained some answers to questions we had before camp began. Here is a look at some things we have learned so far…
Ben Roethlisberger’s knee is doing fine and Ben is feeling great. After Roethlisberger’s knee surgery before mini-camp many wondered how it would effect Roethlisberger as far as camp. Roethlisberger has not missed any camp and the knee has not been an issue.
Tackle Mike Adams is fine and ready to go after being stabbed weeks ago. Adams did not have to miss any camp time and there have been reports he is doing well at camp.
Heath Miller begins camp on PUP list but has been seen running near full speed and can make some cuts. It seems Miller is coming along on schedule with his knee and that’s very good news.
Sean Spence hopes to play by mid season. This still may be a question but its much more optimistic news than reports in April suggested.
The Steelers offensive line has been practicing a lot of zone blocking schemes.
Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer are both in great shape . Both players dropped some weight . Dwyer dropped about 25 pounds.
Linebacker coach Keith Butler says LaMarr Woodley is where he needs to be in his conditioning. That may help Woodley return to his Pro-bowl ways. Lets hope so.
Its really early but so far the Steelers draft class looks strong especially the top of the draft class . LB Jarvis Jones, RB Le’Veon Bell , WR Markus Wheaton and S Shamarko Thomas all have impressed early on. Of course it’s very early in the evaluation period to say for sure and we will know more once the games start.
New special teams coach Danny Smith seems determined to make the Steelers special teams unit special and that would be a very good thing considering the Steelers special teams play in recent years.
There is always that one player that comes out of nowhere and becomes the talk of camp. This year that player may be undrafted second year inside linebacker Marshall McFadden. McFadden led the team in tackle last pre-season and made the practice squad. This year he is making some plays early in camp and people are beginning to notice.
One other thing we learned is coach Mike Tomlin has joined Twitter . @CoachTomlin follow him. You know he should keep it interesting.
