OTA Week Three Recap


Well the Pittsburgh Steelers have finished their three weeks of organized team activities. 10 days of practice that was voluntary, but in head coach Mike Tomlin’s words, they were highly recommended after going 8-8 in 2012. It was a drama filled week with a Mike Adams stabbing, Ben Roethlisberger knee surgery and the top picks signing their rookie contracts. We bring you our weekly recap of what happened in the last four days of OTA’s.

Attendance: Attendance on the South Side at OTA’s has been very high completely through. Almost every player has been there throughout the 10 days of practice. The only exceptions this week were: Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Mike Adams, and Ben Roethlisberger.

Injury Report: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger missed the remaining days of OTA’s due to minor knee surgery on Wednesday. Steelers placed cornerback Justin King on the team’s Reserve/Injured List. Steelers placed Zack Pianalto on Waived/Injured list. Lastly on injuries, Mike Adams was released from the hospital and is expected to return in 6-8 weeks.

Offense: The Steelers signed undrafted tight end Peter Tuitupou from San Jose State. Rookie running back Le’Veon Bell signs four-year contract. Beachum takes over while Mike Adams sits out. Bell’s contract value. Kevin Beachum is a jack of all trades with a master’s degree.

Defense: Jarvis Jones signs four-year deal. Three defensive players the Steelers will ask to step up. Steelers have signed undrafted rookie free agent cornerback Nigel Malone. Brett Keisel is a man on a mission. Jones’ contract value.

Extras: Steelers head to Dave & Buster’s for some team bonding. Poll: Will Le’Veon Bell Rush for 1,000 yards in 2013? One rookie remains unsigned. Don’t expect a contract for Emmanuel Sanders before the season starts.

The Steelers will report to mandatory minicamp on Tuesday for three days of again, football in shorts. This will be the last organized week of practice before the team reports to Latrobe six weeks later for training camp.
