Steelers cornerback Cortez Allen will be a key player in 2013 and he was a focus point in the article posted earlier today. Allen fielded a few questions Sunday morning from 93.7 the Fan’s Troy Clardy about the upcoming season.
There has been so much analysis from around the league that the Steelers will not get to where they usually are in the upcoming season (playoffs). Many are already placing them third in the division behind the Bengals and Ravens. However, Allen says he is confident in the team’s ability to compete.
“I feel confident in our ability to compete,” Allen said. “The environment within the locker room has not changed as far as what we expect from each other. We still do have the key components in every phase of our team. We still have guys that helped us be the number one secondary in the league, and a lot of guys are still here who helped us be the number one defense. I’m very, very confident that we’ll do what we’re capable of doing when we put the work into it.”
Allen said all the things that we have been hearing quite a bit this offseason from the Steelers. Their confidence and expectations from one another. If we go back to a week or two ago, Larry Foote was saying very similar things.
A defense that has finished number one overall in the past two years along side an offense that is under Todd Haley’s scheme for a second year feels they have no reason to worry. The Steelers are definitely showing they have a big chip on their shoulder as we roll into the summer.
