In his weekly show on Trib Live Radio, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor talked with co-host John Harris and and special guest, cornerback William Gay. Today being the first day of OTA’s, the two cornerbacks talked about how the first day of practice went.
For Gay it was like coming home. He put on the Steelers helmet again and seen teammates he has not seen for over a year since departing to play for the Arizona Cardinals.
Ike commented on the young players on the team. Saying first off, that the Steelers defense is not as old as they are often labeled.
“I think pretty much all of the veteran guys understand that there is gonna be a point in time when we’re gonna have to rely on these young guys,” Taylor Said. “They are gonna have to step up ASAP.”
It’s true. Just 18 players on the Steelers’ roster have experience of at least seven years in the league. Making the majority of the team in their 20’s. The team is much younger than in years past. Taylor however, is a 33 year-old, 11 year pro, and his comments will become true. As he is on the lighter side of his career, players will need to step up to help get the job done.
Taylor then went on to say when being asked about the young cornerbacks:
“I’m thinking in the back of my mind, someday I’m gonna have to be looking up to you (young corners), but not right now though.”
